When I was about seven, I went to my first rodeo. A couple years later, I went to the "big rodeo" in Clovis. Last week, I took my six year old daughter and my almost four year old son to the 96th Clovis Rodeo. It was their first rodeo. Actually, my mother and step-father took the kids. I took my camera.

I did not choose to go to my first rodeo, though I am glad I went. My daughter, on the other hand, has wanted to go since she watched bull riding on televsion. That was about 18 months ago. I wonder if the early bull riding / rodeo fascination should tell me something about my daughter. She is a strong willed kid. My son also enjoyed the rodeo, especially the "bull dogging." I think he meant steer wrestling. It is something my son tries to do with our dog, but mason is not as successful as the cowboys.
Before the final events, we also watched the Special Kids Rodeo. I wish I had known about it before we arrived. I would have enjoyed photographing the children. Perhaps next year. There will be another year for us and for the Special Kids Rodeo. This year was the 18th.
In case you want to know the history of the first rodeo, I can lead you to some background, but I can't give you an answer.
