Mr. Brasler was my journalism teacher from 1982 - 1985 at the U of C Lab Schools. Taking journalism, and subsequently editing The Midway, changed my writing and my life. I learned how to view the world more objectively, how to manage others, how to edit, how to write what was truly essential. Mr. Brasler was a tough taskmaster who insisted on perfection, but was also one of the kindest and funniest men I have ever met. I am now teaching journalism and advising a high school newspaper, and I think of him often.

Miriam,

Thank you for sharing how Mr. Brasler continues to influence your life. I imagine you are inspiring your students too, and many of your students have reflected on how you have changed their lives forever.
